To Configure Attribute Mappings on a Monitored Folder

An attribute mapping maps one ProjectWise attribute (general document property or custom document attribute) to one AssetWise attribute. Each monitored folder can have different attribute mappings. Attribute mappings must be explicitly set for each monitored folder, if you want attributes of documents in that folder to be mapped. Attribute mappings are inherited from the folder above it.

Attribute mapping can be assigned in one of three directions:
  • ProjectWise to AssetWise, or
  • AssetWise to ProjectWise, or
  • Bidirectionally – The attribute value may originate either from AssetWise ALIM to ProjectWise, or from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM, thus updating an attribute's value in both systems simultaneously.
Bidirectional attribute synchronization follows these rules:
    • For initial registration of documents, all bidirectional attribute values originate from the system that contains the document that is being registered
    • For attribute synchronization actions, the bidirectional attribute originates from the most recently updated document.

Follow these steps to configure attribute mappings.

  1. Open the Explore tab (View > Explore).
  2. Click the ProjectWise icon .
  3. Expand the datasource until you find the folder whose attribute mapping settings you want to configure, then select that folder.
  4. In the Content pane, expand the Attribute Mapping topic. This topic lists the attribute mappings that exist for this folder. For example,
  5. To add an attribute mapping to the list:
    1. In the next available row, select a ProjectWise attribute in the ProjectWise Attribute column.
    2. Select the appropriate ALIM Type from the list. Choices are:
      • Attribute
      • Cross Reference Type
      • Relationship, or
      • Responsibility Type.
    3. Select an available ALIM Object from the list.
Note: Options vary depending on your selection in Step 5 (b):
      • If you selected Attribute, the list displays all available ALIM document attributes
      • If you selected Relationship, the list displays all approved relationship templates that:
        • Have a document object on the left or right side of the Direction arrow, and,
        • The object on the opposite side of the Relationship may only be a: document, tag, virtual item group, organization, project, or location.
      • If you selected Responsibility Type, the ALIM Object list displays available responsibility types, and the ProjectWise Attribute value indicates the name(s) of the responsible object(s).
      • If you selected Cross Reference Type, the ALIM Object list displays available cross reference types for documents. The ProjectWise Attribute value indicates the value(s) of cross reference(s).
    4. Click the Direction arrow to denote the direction from which the attribute synchronization is to occur.
Note: A bidirectional assignment is denoted by the double arrow icon ( )
Note: If the ALIM Type is "Attribute", and any of the following intrinsic properties are selected, the Direction is locked pointing in the direction of the ProjectWise Attribute:
      • Intrinsic/IsSuperseded
      • Intrinsic/ChangeControlled
      • Intrinsic/Middle
      • Intrinsic/Revision
      • Intrinsic/Name.
    5. Repeat Steps 5 (a) to 5 (d), to add more attribute mappings.
    6. When you are finished, click the Save icon at the end of each row to save your changes individually, or click the Save icon in the Action bar to save all of your changes at once.
